PHILADELPHIA (May 19, 2026) — On the eve of the return of the world’s top professional cyclists to Philadelphia for the Philadelphia Cycling Classic presented by AmeriGas®, amateur riders of all ages and abilities will get their chance to race city streets during the Philadelphia Cycling Classic Amateur Time Trial on Saturday, August 29.

Presented by Guy's Racing Club and hosted in partnership with Philadelphia Cycling Classic with support from Independence Youth Cycling, the amateur time trial will bring cyclists of all levels to compete on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. This event will also as serve as race #10 of the New Jersey Time Trial Cup Series.

“Time trials are one of the purest forms of cycling because it’s just you, the course, and the clock,” said Dave Berson, co-president of Guy’s Racing Club. “Whether you’re an experienced racer or trying the discipline for the first time, this event gives riders a rare opportunity to compete on closed Philadelphia roads as part of a major race weekend.”

The 8-mile out-and-back course will start and finish on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, near where it merges with the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, travel to Falls Bridge and back. Known for being predominantly flat and fast, the route offers an ideal setting for both seasoned competitors and emerging riders.

The first rider will take off at 9 a.m., with participants following at 30-second intervals. The time trial will feature Non-TT “Eddy” road bike categories, aero categories, junior boys and girls divisions, handcycle and disabled divisions, and a non-binary category, creating opportunities for a wide range of athletes to compete under USA Cycling sanctioning.

The event is sanctioned by USA Cycling, and all aero equipment will follow official USA Cycling regulations. Registration opens on June 1, 2026 and closes on August 27, 2026 at midnight.

Registration fees are set at $45 for adults and $20 for juniors. Doubling up is permitted but requires two entries & must race two times. Riders can only enter once per category. Cash prizes and medals will be awarded to top finishers.

In addition to the Amateur Time Trial, local cyclists have another opportunity to get in on the action of race weekend. On August 30, ahead of the professional races, cyclists of all ages and levels can participate in the Philadelphia Cycling Classic Charity Ride for the American Association for Cancer Research, a rare chance to take on a loop of the 14.4-mile iconic Classic course while raising funds for lifesaving cancer research.
